Welcome to Mama Moose Musings aka Jeannie Gerhardt's Thoughts

How'd I get the name Mama Moose? I lived in Alaska a few years, and grew to admire the calm, graceful and yet powerful Mother moose. I regularly had the privilege of viewing moose outside of my log cabin windows.

This picture was taken in Delta Junction, AK, many years ago. This was one of my first tries at creating a cover for my book. It has since undergone many changes. It is now finished and for sale in my shop.

I used to blog for several years while living in Alaska. I wanted family and friends to see what life in a log cabin complete with a outhouse was like. We moved a lot since then and that blog morphed into other ventures and eventually I stopped. However, I printed the blog out in book form and it is now a real treasure for my kids and I to look back on and read. It details our adventures with Jesus, creation, and homeschooling. It contains many words of spiritual encouragement in walking the pathways of life, specifically related to motherhood. I will occasionally make reference to a memory or picture here in this space.

I enjoy writing and continue to be invited to write articles for magazines and publications. Last year my first children's fiction, "The Alaskan Gingerbread," was published. My daughter in law, Abigail Gerhardt, beautifully illustrated the story with colored pencils.

My most recent online publication was by OCEAN Network on the importance of trusting God as He's the only one who's been in our future. You can see that article here https://oceanetwork.org/trust-god/ I had written it before my divorce last year and found it to be timely as I have struggled with whether or not I could still homeschool while being divorced. I found I don't have what it takes, but God does. They are his children and somehow we've made it through the end of another year! I realize that God has always been with me in my difficult journey. He's always preparing us for what's around the corner because He sees it before we do. There's been a tremendous amount of moves (over 20), difficult living, including homelessness and a lot of relational drama, but God's Word and His truth never change. He's always been with me and has never left me alone. This year I see Him as He really is, the Protector, Provider, and Redeemer of my soul.

This blog is supposed to be author related but will include personal tidbits of my life. I love writing and am open to any questions, you, my readers, may have about my life in Alaska, my life as a writer or a homeschool Mom. You can even ask me what life is like post divorce. Thought provoking questions are the best fuel for a writer's fire so I invite you to comment here or drop me an email and I'll be happy to answer as best I can.

I hope this provides you with a source of encouragement and inspiration as you follow Jesus in your own life journey's. May you be occupied with joy!
